Frequently Asked Questions:

How did the Hampton Hotels partnership develop with Plateno Hotels Group?

After researching the market for a number of years and weighing the options of developing the brand on its own or with an in-country partner, Hampton ultimately decided that in order to accelerate our efforts to gain broad geographic and chain scale distribution in China, it needed to partner with someone who knows the area, enabling us to access a large, growing customer base for both in country and outbound business.

Plateno Hotels Group is a proven hospitality leader in China, and has opened more than 2,000 in just eight years with its economy 7 Days Inn brand. Plateno was looking to diversify its portfolio of brands in China as well, making the partnership a win-win for both sides.

Will Hilton Worldwide still ensure it's high quality requirements are in terms of performance and brand standards?

Yes, Hilton Worldwide is working in lock-step with Plateno to develop a concept that fits the market and still maintains the Hampton brand identity. We will be intricately involved in overseeing the brand in China.

What is the biggest advantage of the partnership?

The biggest advantage of the agreement is having one partner who knows the market inside and out and has established relationships with owners and developers. Plateno has the largest economy brand in China and has a reputation for quality and success, and we are confident that this unique model will help Hampton attain success in the market.

Partnering with Plateno also brings the opportunity to introduce the Hampton by Hilton brand to China's largest hospitality loyalty program, a guest base of more than 80 million members traveling for business and leisure both domestically and abroad.

The specific competitive set will vary by market, but will be primarily be other three-star hotels.

How does this development model differ from other Hilton Worldwide's other development strategies globally?

This model is unique because it uses one external partner with extensive knowledge and experience in a particular market to sell, develop and manage our hotels.

Do you anticipate Hampton by Hilton owners to be primarily Chinese or are you targeting international hoteliers as well?

Plateno has strong relationships with owners and developers throughout China, so we anticipate most, if not all, owners will be Chinese. Long term, as the brand grows we may see interest from international developers, but only time will tell.
